Dresdner Robin has extensive experience in the provision of civil engineering and site civil design services including:
Stormwater Management
Dresdner Robin's qualified engineering staff has considerable depth of experience in the field of stormwater management. Our skills in this area include design and construction of stormwater conveyance systems including; open channels, piped systems and overland flow interception systems.
In addition, Dresdner Robin has engineers experienced in routing, design of sediment ponds and detention basins and the design and installation of storm water pollution intercepting devices. Our staff is also experienced in the production of storm water management master plans for local authorities that have involved the identification of storm water problems within the watershed to develop integrated, long term solutions and management strategies that take a holistic approach to watershed and engender ecologically sustainable principles.
Software used for hydraulic and hydrologic engineering analysis includes: HEC-RAS, HEC-1, HEC-2, Storm CAD, TR-55, Hydro flow Storm Sewers, and NJDOT storm spread sheet design.
Water Distribution Systems
Dresdner Robin has extensive experience in water distribution system design. We have recently designed two sections of the 30" high-pressure water main extension within the Jersey City waterfront. These system sections utilized mega-lug restrained joint design eliminating the need for massive concrete thrust restraints; an advantage in tight urban spaces. We have developed staging and service cutover plans, performed field inspections and monitored pressure tests.
Dresdner Robin has designed numerous building service connections, prepared and submitted NJDEP Water Main Extension Permit applications. Our staff has designed water meter chambers for combined fire and domestic flows.
Sanitary Sewer Systems
Dresdner Robin has extensive experience in sanitary sewer design both with individual buildings and area collection systems. Design work is performed consistent with NJDEP requirements and we have prepared and processed NJDEP Treatment Works Approval (TWA) sewer extension permit applications. Dresdner Robin staff has designed sewer systems with lift stations and on bridges requiring the sewer main to be heat taped to prevent freezing.
Dresdner Robin inspects sewer systems using testing procedures that include exfiltration testing and sewer video inspections.
Utility Inventory Plans
Accurate information regarding the location and size of services is important to the management of utility systems. Often within more urbanized areas mapping is frequently incomplete, out of date and/or inaccurate. Accurate, current data improves the ability of public agencies to manage growth, budget maintenance or improvement needs and provide efficient service. Geographic Information System (GIS) technologies provide a major advancement in the ability to store, update and retrieve graphical data. Dresdner Robin has the staff to investigate, interpret, compile, map and GIS resource utility information enabling this critical data to be kept current and readily available to multiple users. Our engineers can evaluate existing information, compile overlays, determine conflicting or additional information needs and develop accurate geo-referenced mapping data.
Utility Relocation Design
Utility relocation design and management requires a thorough understanding of design requirements, service conflicts, construction and traffic limitations and an ability to identify and communicate solutions within a frequently contentious group of stakeholders. An increasingly focused expertise of Dresdner Robin's engineering practice, we have completed numerous project assignments and developed a close working relationship with local MUA, water departments, PSE&G, NJTransit/21st Century (HBLRT), telecommunication companies and other utility agencies. The work usually involves a preliminary investigation, a thorough review of plans, as-built drawings and other relevant documents that may assist in determining existing conditions and a mark-out.
A preliminary design is usually conceived to determine whether any utility conflicts exist and, if it is deemed necessary, Dresdner Robin will develop a Test Pit Plan in conjunction with the developer/contractor, utility agency and the county's local authorities, before a relocation design is developed that includes cross sections, plans and profiles.
Dresdner Robin facilitates the process through active communications, coordination meetings and design follow-up. This coordinated approach guarantees a well-planned cost effective outcome, minimizing impacts to existing infrastructure and inconvenience to the local community during construction.
Roadway Design
The strength of Dresdner Robin's roadway design capability is a seasoned staff that individually has performed as project engineers and project managers on a variety of projects for clients ranging from private developers to NJDOT, NYSDOT, NJ Transit, PANYNJ, Jersey City Engineering Department, as well as a variety of county and town clients throughout the state.
