Dresdner Robin was charged with preparing a conceptual design for a pocket park on Mountain Road at the foot of existing rock cliffs to provide open space for passive and active recreation for the adjacent residential development and neighborhood. The concept plant was used to acquire grant funding to cover the cost of construction.

The design needed to resolve site constraints imposed by the narrow, long dimension, exposed cliff face, steep slopes with significant grade change. To overcome those challenges, Dresdner Robin utilized stepped retaining walls, created multiple terraces, and a linear walkway that connects the spaces providing ADA access. The design of the park showcased the existing exposed palisade cliff face as a design feature and mimicked the cliff with a children’s rock climbing play structure in one of the lawn areas.

The project also contains seating areas, open lawn areas for unstructured play, a bluestone paved patio, trellis structure for shade, game tables and a Tot Lot playground. A combination of shade, ornamental, and evergreen trees provide shade and comfort. Shrubs and perennials outline the different spaces and give interest to the area year around.
