DePaul Catholic High School
Envisioning the future
Adjoining site developments removed parking utilized for DePaul Catholic High School in Wayne, NJ for athletic events. DePaul Catholic saw in this change an opportunity to create a grand entrance, promenade, and plaza for an improved athletic complex design, improved academic environment and better visitor experience.
The new entrance to Alumni Field will be celebrated by monumental brick piers and will be topped with a welcoming Alumni Field entry arch. The walkway along the east side of the school facility will be widened to accommodate game-time fan flow. It will open onto Spartan Plaza, where fans can congregate, that will be detailed with spirited signage, and will feature a legacy wall highlighting school donors. A new concession building will provide added visitor amenities, while also allowing for convenient restroom and storage space. Finally, a large open-air pavilion will anchor the site, providing much-needed space for athletic practice, outdoor academic classroom space and event programming year-round.
Landscape design features of the walkway include the use of permeable pavers feeding new plantings and rain gardens and pocket settings along seat walls for relaxation and contemplation in quieter times.
