Steel Tech Redevelopment
Dresdner Robin provided design services for a multi-building urban development on a brownfields site. Extensive planning work was required to craft an amended redevelopment plan meeting both the Client and the City’s needs. The proposed improvements will encompass multiple publicly beneficial amenities including two public plazas, a pedestrian mall connecting a main arterial roadway to one of the City’s largest parks, and a Community Center. The site will be anchored by a mixed-use residential high rise building and a business incubator space.
Dresdner Robin worked with the project Architects to honor the site’s industrial history by creating a design vocabulary evocative of the steel manufacturing that once took place on the property. Custom way-finding signs and sculptural light poles carry the design through the site and complement a public art installation at the entry plaza. Public plazas are designed for sustainability and flexibility in future programming, with open lawn space, permeable brick and stone dust plazas, and planting design that maximizes tree canopy and sight lines.
