Constraints Mapping

3D SCANNING TO ANALYZE OVERPASS SUPPORT STRUCTURES

We tend to go to the next level, transforming even the art of scanning. We were asked to take our 3D Scanner to the streets of Jersey City, near the Holland Tunnel. As if scanning an entire city block with buildings wasn’t difficult enough, there were roadways that passed above them.

The elevated roadways were sloped and at inconsistent elevations, so we had to know the conditions of the support structures, lending invaluable data on how to fix them.

The horizontal and vertical portions of existing features and overhead roadways, their relation to the ground, and clearance between the two were measured and assessed. A 3D point cloud, or image, was created to give us a clear picture. The site had to be surveyed from multiple perspectives to provide the best, most accurate images. With this type of transformative technology, we can be confident that we had the right images to address a very complex issue.
